26 Feb – First Thematic Tournament of 2010

Friday, Feb 26, 2010, come and say “Happy BIrthday” to Dayton’s own Chess Queen, Sharon Driver.
Then play, in her honor, “The Queen’s Gambit Declined, Manhattan Variation” (1. d4 d5 2.c4 e6 3.Nc3 Nf6 4.Bg5 Nbd7 5.e3 Bb4 with White to move) Thematic Tournament. Expect to enjoy playing both the black and white side of this opening – G/25, td/5.

Is there any significance to choosing the Manhattan? I understand choosing QGD.

Why the Manhattan? I could give a greatly detailed answer or provide the history of the variation, but none of that would really be why. The simple fact is “Manhattan is a place Sharon has always wanted to visit.” Hope this helps.
