Looking for information about the Dayton Chess Club from the history to how it came to be at 18 W. Fifth Street in downtown Dayton, Ohio? We do know it all started out with an ad in the local newspaper in 1957 – Earl Boen looking for someone to play chess with. Bill Wall captured the early years of the Dayton Chess Club….
History of the Dayton Chess Club
Dayton Chess Club hours of operation:
Something new has been added. Lecture(s) – promptly start at 7pm. Openings – game analyses – and strategy. Lectures usually last 30 minutes…but sometimes with participation, morph into an hour or so. Not interested in lectures? Casual games always available! Please note that if no one shows up by 7:30pm, the club will close so we may conserve utilities.
This is our “Scholastic Knights” evening, geared towards K-12 students – learn to play, learn simple tactics. Adults are welcomed to join in – all for the reduced rate of $4.00 for an evening membership. Ms Kay Stanley runs the Scholastic Knights program – and has some outstanding help. Drop by!
There’s always a rated USCF game in 25 on Friday nights …. nominal entry fee of $14 for non-members, $10 for members, prizes based on entries. And of course, there’s always players looking for a game or two who don’t play in the tournament!
Saturdays: Open only during scheduled tournaments.
